8 Items Every Nursery Needs

I had been dreaming about the nursery I was going to create for my baby long before I got pregnant.

When I got pregnant, I started researching all the things I was going to need. And all the things I wanted.

The nursery was going to be so cute!

I started a baby registry and collecting everything I needed and wanted to make my perfect and cute nursery.

Then I had my baby.

I quickly realized this cute nursery was more for me than the baby. The first few months we rarely even entered the room since the baby slept in my room.

Even once he moved into the nursery, the baby couldn’t care less how cute the nursery was, if it met his needs. He wanted to sleep, eat, cuddle and have his diaper changed. He didn’t really care how cute the things were that met those needs.

I also quickly realized a lot of the fancy gadgets that I just had to have, I rarely used.

Here are the must haves for every nursery:

Crib – Every baby needs somewhere to sleep! I recommend a convertible crib so that it will grow with your baby. Convertible cribs convert into a toddler bed, a daybed and then a full-size bed so that you use the same bed for years.

Rocking Chair – A rocking chair is a perfect place for you to sit as you feed your baby, sing to your baby or simply just cuddle and rock your baby. You will be spending a lot of time in this chair especially when you baby is very little so invest in a comfortable one!

Dresser/Changing Table Combo – Having a combination baby dresser and changing table is extremely convenient. It is nice having the clothes so close when changing a diaper because you will be surprised at how often you will be changing diapers and clothes!

DockATot – This multi-use item is a lifesaver. This offers your infant a comfortable place to sleep, play, do tummy time and interact with you. It is so lightweight that it can be carried around the house so you are always near your little one. It is also small enough, that is easy to take to a friend’s house so that your baby has a comfortable and familiar place to rest or nap.

Crib Mattress – A comfortable and water proof mattress is a must for any baby. The more comfortable your baby is the more likely he will sleep longer and so will you.

Bedrail – A bedrail will help you sleep better at night knowing that your toddler is safe in his bed. Choose one that swings down easily so that is you can quickly make the bed.

Toddler Bed – If you chose not to get a convertible crib you will need a toddler bed. I recommend getting one with a guardrail and that will keep you from having to buy a separate bedrail.

Travel Bassinet – Babies sleep a lot. It is so nice to have a separate travel bassinet that is easy to fold up and travel with that can be taken anywhere from the beach to grandma’s house.
