My mom called me and asked me what she should suggest as a big baby gift for her friend to buy for her pregnant daughter. The answer for me was easy. A Pack n Play!
I love both of my Pack n Plays. I have two – one for each floor of the house. The one upstairs has a bassinet and the one downstairs has a bouncer.
I use my Pack n Plays every day. I decided to forgo buying a changing table, a bassinet and a bouncer because the Pack n Plays met all those needs for me.
Types
There are two main types of Pack n Plays, basic and deluxe. The basic is very lightweight and often comes with a travel bag and has mesh on all sides. The basic model is very easily transported and are great for families who travel often. The deluxe is bulkier but might come with bassinet, changing table, bouncer, organizers, nightlight, a music player or a canopy.
Here are the reasons I love my Pack n Plays:
Easy Storage
They not only have a place for my baby to sleep or play but also a place for me to change him and to keep all of his things I use with him daily such as diapers, wipes and bibs. As he grows he will be able to continue to use it to play in and it will be a great place to keep his toys.
Safe
As a parent, safety is my number one priority and as much as I would love to hold and cuddle my baby all the time, it really isn't impossible. Whether I need to put him down to do some work, laundry or the dishes, I know that he is comfortable and safe.
Nearby
I have one on each floor so that he can always be near me. I can see or at least hear him no matter where I am in the house. Being able to quickly respond to him at any time greatly reduces the chances of accidents or injuries.
Easy to Transport
Pack n Plays are lightweight, foldable and easy to transport. I’ve taken mine to the sitter's house so he can sleep and play in an area that he is familiar and comfortable.
Sleeping
My son has outgrown the bassinet but often falls asleep in the Pack n Play. The pads are firm and light and are perfect for your baby to nap in or sleep in occasionally while traveling or when company is in town. Never put loose blankets in with your baby. The pad on the Pack n Play is smaller than it is in a crib which may be more comforting for your baby.
Multiple Uses
Pack n Plays are perfect for your baby to take a nap, to use a playpen and as a changing table. It really is everything you need for your baby in one package!
Compact
I have both of my pack n plays in corners of rooms. They do not take up very much room and since they are foldable they are easy to store and takes up very little room.
We bought ours at Target and were very happy with their large selection.
